Stained Glass Painting Workshops in London
Stained Glass Painting Workshops in London
This autumn I am opening my studio at Cockpit Bloomsbury for a new series of Saturday morning stained glass painting workshops in London.
These small, hands-on workshops offer the opportunity to learn traditional glass-painting techniques and create your own painted glass roundel. They are suitable for complete beginners as well as artists, designers and makers interested in exploring glass as a creative material.
Learn Traditional Stained Glass Painting
Stained glass painting is different from painting ordinary glassware. Specialist glass paints are applied directly to the surface of the glass before being permanently fired in a kiln.
During the workshop, I will demonstrate how to mix and blend glass paints, build areas of colour and create lines, marks and fine details. You can bring a simple design with you or develop one in the studio using tracing paper.
The emphasis is on experimentation and discovering how colour, light, line and transparency work together on glass.
Create Your Own Painted Glass Roundel
Each participant will create an individual painted glass roundel with a small pre-drilled hole so it can be hung in a window after firing.
At the end of the workshop, I will fire your finished piece in my glass kiln. It will then be ready to collect from the studio the following week.
All glass, paints, brushes and other materials are included in the workshop price.
A Beginner Friendly Glass Workshop
No previous glass-painting or drawing experience is needed. The class is limited to six people, allowing plenty of time for individual guidance and questions.
The workshop is open to adults and young people aged ten and over. Children must be accompanied by an adult, who may observe without purchasing an additional place.
I have worked as a contemporary artist for more than 30 years, exhibiting internationally and creating work across painting, sculpture and kiln-fired glass. My work is listed in the Crafts Council Directory, and I am an Artisan Livery Member of the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers.
